Serial Number

When you test or purchase ListManager, you receive a serial number. Your serial number will be registered at Lyris Technologies when this page is saved, and your ListManager server capabilities will be updated with a new activation code. If you have a firewall, you may need to manually receive and enter an activation code.

For more information about your ListManager license and serial code, see Your ListManager Serial Number.

Admin Email Address

This field should contain the email address of the administrator of this server. ListManager uses this email address to send critical information messages to. For example, if a mail loop is detected, ListManager will automatically end the loop, and notify the email address given here of the loop that occurred.

DNS Servers (Obsolete)

ListManager 6.0h features an integrated DNS engine, so this setting is no longer available for users of 6.0h and higher. You no longer need to set up, configure, or maintain a DNS server for ListManager to use, nor will ListManager be limited by slow DNS servers.

If you are running an earlier version of ListManager, we recommend you upgrade ListManager.

For those running 6.0g and earlier, this setting is the TCP/IP address(es) of your domain name server.

ListManager will have to be shut down and restarted in order for a change to this setting to take effect.

Note: If your DNS server is not working, or you give an invalid DNS TCP/IP address in this setting, that ListManager will no longer be able to send email out.

In most cases, the installer will have placed an appropriate value here.

ListManager will verify any setting you enter by connecting to the IP address you specify, on port 53. If it cannot verify that the DNS server setting is valid, it will not save the setting you specify, and you will receive a warning message to this effect.

You can specify as many DNS servers as you like. Each TCP/IP address must be on a separate line. If you specify more than one DNS server, ListManager will automatically balance the DNS query load between them.

If one of your servers goes down, it will still be able to send mail if you have multiple DNS servers defined, but part of your mail sending will be undeliverable. If you see a large jump in undeliverable mail, and you have multiple DNS servers, check and make sure they are all functioning properly.

Note: Because ListManager uses an internal DNS caching scheme, the DNS cache is equally as effective with one or many servers -- thus, the usual reason for using just one DNS server (to help that server cache entries) does not apply with ListManager.

We recommend that busy sites define as many DNS servers as possible. DNS operations typically are typically a large part of the work in delivering mail, and when there is a great deal of mail to deliver, DNS server efficiency tends to suffer. Thus, listing many DNS servers will increase your mail sending capacity.
